Prince Harry will be taking over National Geographic’s Instagram account today, in an effort to encourage people to appreciate the beauty of trees. Harry will be posting on the account, which has 123 million followers (over ten times more than @sussexroyal!) today sharing a series of images of forest canopies taken by National Geographic photographers.

The takeover is a way to celebrate the creation of two new national parks as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy campaign, launched in 2015, and coincides with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal tour of southern Africa.

‘We are delighted to partner with The Duke of Sussex to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and restoring indigenous forests,’ said Nat Geo Magazine Editor in Chief, Susan Goldberg in a statement.

‘It is now more important than ever to encourage the conservation of our natural world, and we hope this partnership will help shine a light on this key issue needed to maintain a healthy planet.’

Prince Harry doesn’t have his own Instagram account (ok, he probably has a private one where he snoops on celebs) but wife Meghan was quite the social media influencer before closing her Instagram account ahead of marrying Harry.

The pair started @sussexroyal together on April 2nd this year, so they could share ‘the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and [have] the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.’ They have gained a whopping 9.6 million followers since then, and are currently closely documenting the royal tour of Africa.
