He’s probably the most publicly mischievous member of the Royal family (closely rivalled by adorable nephew George), and he’s certainly got the looks to match. But bad boy mannerisms and charming stares aren’t the only reasons the world - along with Meghan Markle - has fallen head-over-heels in love with Prince Harry.
First, let’s get a few formalities out of the way.
How old is Prince Harry?
He's 35, going on 36. The red-head was born on September 15th 1984, two years after his older brother William, Duke of Cambridge.
What is his real name?
He may be best known as Harry (or, rumour has it, Spike to his closest friends), but the son of Princess Diana was actually born Henry Charles Albert David. This change of name is an old fashioned tradition that originated amongst the British monarchy, with Henrys throughout history (and still today) preferring to be called Harry.
He’s all about charity
It’s no secret that the Prince is a huge supporter of fundraising projects around the world. His main responsibilities lie with Sentebale, the charity that he founded in 2006 alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support children suffering with HIV and AIDS. And that’s just the beginning. Harry has also dedicated his time to charities including WellChild, MapAction, HALO Trust and most recently, the Invictus Games Foundation. He even became the first member of the royal family to reach the South Pole, raising money for Walking with the Wounded in 2013. This love of philanthropy seems to be one of the things that attracted Meghan to him: they bonded over their shared love of helping others on their first date.
He’s a good sport, literally
The Prince famously enjoys spending his time in the middle of a polo field or skiing down a snow-drenched mountain. But he’s also not afraid to entertain the crowds and get involved in team sports for charity, and a good laugh. Remember when he raced Usain Bolt in Jamaica?
He looks great in uniform
Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2005. In the following ten years, Harry served under the Blues & Royals, followed in William’s footsteps by joining the Army Air Corps, completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan and spent four weeks on secondment with the Australian Defence Force. He left the Army in 2015.
He’s human
Sure, Prince Harry has a life outside what we see in the media. And, we should hope so too. But there have been a few moments where his private life has come to the surface He’s sworn on live radio, scuffled with photographers, been reprimanded for dressing up as a Nazi and in 2012 his pert bottom became front page news as he was snapped partying in Las Vegas.
He took these displays of humanity further, and with an honourable motivation, after meeting Meghan, when he started to actively criticise the media and the public's reaction to the woman who would become his wife.
