He may be just four years old, but Prince George is already the most relatable of royals (yes, we are fully aware that the privilege of royalty doesn’t always foster a sense of relatability, but that’s an argument for another time). The latest proof? Just a few weeks into his first term at his new prep school Thomas’s Battersea, and the third in line to the throne is already so, so done with full time education (cue tiny Prince George eye roll). In fact, he’s entirely over it, despite the promise of very, very fancy school dinners, according to his father, Prince William.
Speaking to a fellow parent on a visit to Milton Keynes, William, who has been on school gate duties since George started his studies, revealed: ‘I just dropped George off and he didn’t want to go.’ Same, George. Same.
31-year-old Louise Smith told reporters, ‘it was really exciting meeting William. He told me he’d just dropped Prince George off at school and he didn’t want to go. Sounds a bit like mine really.’ Her young daughters, three-year-old Sophia and one-year-old Holly, also got a ‘hello’ from the Prince.
It seems, though, that William had already anticipated this minor hitch. On his eldest’s first day of school, he revealed that he was feeling more nervous about the milestone than George was himself, but hinted that might soon change. ‘We are all seeing how long that lasts before he doesn’t want to go,’ he said.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (who has not yet joined William on pick-up duties due to suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum while pregnant with her third child) reportedly chose Thomas’s Battersea for George for its ‘village feel’ and close proximity to Kensington Palace, where they will permanently reside from September. At the co-educational day school, pupils are discouraged from picking just one best friend, while the most important rule is to ‘be kind.’ Famous former pupils include Cara Delevingne and Florence Welch, and George is not the only royal in his reception class: he’s joined by Maud Windsor, the daughter of Lord Frederick and Lady Sophie Windsor.
