A man has been arrested and released on bail after Pippa Middleton had her iCloud account hacked and personal photos stolen.
Around 3,000 images were taken from her account, including family photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and details of Pippa’s upcoming wedding to James Matthews, including pictures from a wedding dress fitting.
The hacker contacted The Sun under a pseudonym last week and offered to sell the personal images for £50,000 in ‘a simple process of the highest bid.’ The paper chose not to purchase the pictures, and instead notified Pippa of the theft.
Yesterday, Scotland Yard revealed that a 35-year-old had been arrested in connection with the hack, on the suspicion of a Computer Misuse Act.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said, ‘Detectives investigating the hacking of a personal iCloud account have made an arrest. On Saturday evening, a 35-year-old man was arrested at an address in Northamptonshire.
‘He was arrested on suspicion of a Computer Misuse Act offence and is being taken into custody at a south London police station.’
It has now been revealed that the suspect has been released on bail, and will return in late November as the enquiries continue.
This security breach makes Pippa the latest woman in the public eye to have her personal images targeted and leaked by hackers. This year has seen singer Adele and actress Leslie Jones have private pictures posted online without their consent, while in 2014 Hollywood stars including Jennifer Lawrence had images stolen from their iCloud accounts. Several arrests have since been made in connection with the case.
