It’s the day half the country (or certainly the thousands of people who have complained to Ofcom about him) have been waiting for: Piers Morgan is stepping down from Good Morning Britain.
In a statement, ITV said: 'Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.'
The news comes after Ofcom, the broadcasting regulator, announced that it was launching an investigation into the presenter in the wake of more than 41,000 complaints over comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle – more complaints than Ofcom has received for any programme for almost 15 years, according to the BBC.

Mental health charity Mind, which is a partner with ITV on its mental health campaign Britain Get Talking, also said they were ‘disappointed’ by the presenter's comments.
In her interview with Oprah Winfrey – broadcast on Sunday in the US and Monday in the UK - Meghan revealed she had felt suidical, saying she previously felt like she ‘didn't want to be alive anymore’. Piers reacted on the programme on Monday saying: 'I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she says, Meghan Markle', before continuing to decry the interview. 'I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report. The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family I think is contemptible,' he added.
On Tuesday's show, he commented that 'I still have serious concerns about the veracity of a lot of what' Meghan said, but that it was 'not for me to question if she felt suicidal'.

And as for Piers' next steps? There's speculation online already that his next job could be at Andrew Neil's upcoming new channel, GB News...
For some, this will spell the end of an era for entertaining breakfast TV. For many others, it’s good riddance and a silver lining to the Oprah documentary. Team Meghan will no doubt be grateful to see the royal interview end Piers’ breakfast reign... well, for now at least.
