What IS It About Pete Davidson?

Seriously, what is it about Pete Davidson? In the past few years, the Saturday Night Live comedian has jumped from one A-list girlfriend to another. Now he’s been linked with the Queen of all celebrities: Kim Kardashian.

This follows a five month romance with Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor, a dalliance with Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber, and relationships with Ariana Grande and Kate Beckinsale.

Many of you will have first become aware of Pete, a heavily tattooed 27-year-old with a love of weed, when he was with Ariana and the phrase ‘big dick energy’ was coined. (BDE is the quiet confidence of a well-endowed man.) Twitter went into meltdown after Ariana cheekily told a fan Pete possessed it, and journalist Ben Machell summed up Pete’s allure perfectly when he tweeted, ‘Pete has GCSE French exchange energy. He’s here. He’s weird. Girls love him and he’s against the clock because he’s going back to Rouen.’

So who can blame Kim if she wanted to dip her toe into the Pete Davidson pond? The reality star, who split from husband Kanye West earlier this year after eight years of marriage, was spotted holding hands with Pete during an outing to a California theme park this weekend a few weeks after meeting on the SNL set. Sources have claimed to People that they are 'just friends' but dare we dream that this could be the celebrity pairing to see 2021 to go out with a bang (pun intended)?

It's not hard to see Pete’s charm. In his bashful geekiness (he has a tattoo in homage to his love of Harry Potter). His honesty: Pete lost his firefighter father in 9/11, aged seven, and has spoken frankly about his borderline personality disorder diagnosis. His SNL pedigree means he can make you laugh. He’s woke – he has tattoos of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Hillary Clinton – and he’s a gent. In an interview last week, he said, ‘I treat the person I’m with like a princess’.

Maybe for us Pete stans he is a nostalgic reminder of the man many of us wanted as a teenager: quiet, funny and cool as hell. No wonder his celebrity Rolodex is filling up.
