Paul Mescal Starred In A Sausage Advert Before Normal People

We might have all become obsessed with Paul Mescal thanks to his portrayal ofConnell{ =nofollow}in the heartbreaking Normal People. But while Normal People might have been his first lead TV role, it wasn’t Paul's first time on screen - as fans were shocked to discover this weekend.

Before he was breaking all of our hearts, Paul starred in an advert for Denny sausages. The actor, from County Kildare in Ireland, looks pretty different without Connell's signature chain{ =nofollow}as he played a young man heading off on his travels in the advert with the slogan: 'Seize the Denny!'

And we’re all equally impressed and amazed by how his career has skyrocketed since. ‘Imagine being Paul Mescal going from the Denny’s sausage ad to being the star of the show on Kourtney Kardashian's Insta story,’ one fan wrote on Twitter. Another added, 'Finished Normal People last night. Who would have thought the fella from the Denny sausage ad would be blowing us all away with award worthy acting during these weird times.'

It took some fans a while to work out just where they recognised the actor from, though. 'Literally watched 12 full episodes of Normal People wondering where I recognised Paul Mescal’s face from,' another added, 'and it’s just clicked, that Denny’s sausage advert.'

Speaking to Grazia via a Zoom call, the actor recently told us how he's been navigating his new-found status as a heart-throb. ‘When people meet me in person they’ll be disappointed,’ he tells us, laughing. ‘People are taking that from the character of Connell, and that’s something I actually never thought he would be. It was genuinely the last thing I was expecting, so I haven’t formed an opinion on it yet, I suppose.’
