An impromptu wedding photoshoot staged at the most important government building in the United States of America, without any permission asked beforehand: the latest fallout from Donald Trump’s White House is the stuff of reality TV nightmares – but when the president himself is a nightmarish reality TV star, the lines are already blurred…
Let us elaborate: Omarosa Manigault, who first came to Donald Trump’s attention as a contestant on The Apprentice, currently holds the role of director of communications for the Office of the Public Liaison. In April this year, Omarosa (who, much like Madonna, frequently goes by her first name alone) was married to Pastor John Allen Newman at – you guessed it – Washington D.C.’s Trump Hotel.
Aside from the venue, the prior appearance on TLC reality show Say Yes To The Dress (Omarosa eventually decided upon a $25,000 from Kleinfeld Bridal) and the guest list which included handfuls of Real Housewives and Trump spokespeople (oh, to be a fly on that wall), the proceedings didn’t seem too bizarre - until a new report from Politico revealed what happened before the ceremony itself.
According to the site, the senior official ‘caused a stir in the White House’ when she brought her bridal party (of 39 people, no less) to her place of work ‘for an extended wedding photo shoot, catching fellow senior aides and some security officials by surprise in her bridal attire.’ The visitors reportedly ‘loudly wandered around, looking to snap photos in the Rose Garden and throughout the West Wing, according to four current and former White House officials.’
Politico adds that ‘it’s unclear whether she received formal permission for the photo shoot,’ but ‘some lawyers and other senior aides were not briefed in advance.’ Omarosa was then banned from posting the pictures online due to ‘security and ethical concerns.’ The incident has – unsurprisingly – ‘[done] little to help the reputation of the Office of Public Liaison.’
So, while it’s unlikely that Omarosa’s White House-theme photoshoot will ever see the light of day, it’s surely only a matter of time before this particular Trump aide gets her own E! reality spin-off…
