Ever since the release of 2009’s A Single Man, we’ve been waiting for Tom Ford’s next cinematic venture with anticipation, and the first full length trailer for Nocturnal Animals certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Based on Austin Wright’s novel 'Tony and Susan', the designer’s second feature film will star Amy Adams as a woman drawn into the fictional world of a thriller written by her estranged ex-husband (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) when an unsolicited copy of the manuscript is sent to her.

Shocked and moved by the contents of the novel (itself titled 'Nocturnal Animals'), Susan starts to see parallels with her own story – and to question the choices she has made – as the fiction of Edward (Gyllenhaal)’s book merges with her perceived reality and builds to an explosive conclusion.

Tensely paced and beautifully shot, the first trailer promises a gripping psycho-drama with Ford’s signature attention to detail and aesthetics.

After the critical success of A Single Man, it’s no surprise that some of Hollywood’s most acclaimed stars are clamouring to work with Ford. Due to be released on November 4th, the film will also star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon and Adams’ real-life doppelganger Isla Fisher as her fictional stand-in.

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, it has already proved a hit with the critics, and it's surely only a matter of time before the awards season nods start to roll in.
