After five years together, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have called off their engagement and parted ways. The Olympic snowboarder and The Vampire Diaries star started dating in 2019, before getting engaged in 2024, and a source confirmed this week that they are no longer together.

The decision comes as a shock to fans after the former couple were spotted together looking happy as ever on 31 August, holding hands walking around Los Angeles, but one week later at the premiere of Eternity, Nina was pictured on the red carpet without her engagement ring on. Internet sleuths also noticed she had unpinned her engagement post on her Instagram grid.

Why did Nina Dobrev and Shaun White split?

'It was a mutual decision, and wasn't an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,' a source told People.

That said, fans have raised eyebrows after a cryptic TikTok Nina posted last week. 'How do you sleep at night knowing that people don't like you?' the audio asks. Nina then lip-synced the reply, 'With no underwear unless they want to kiss my ass.' The audio then says, 'What's your advice for women trying to fix their man?'. She then lip syncs, 'Listen Bob the Builder, he's got 10 other women trying to fix him too and you all look like a damn construction crew.'

Unsurprisingly, the comments under the video have assumed the post is indirecting Shaun. 'I really hope he didn't cheat on you,' reads one comment. 'Not me watching this video after I found out that her engagement is off,' reads another. 'Well this video makes sense now after the split,' commented a third user. The clip has also received more than 9.5 million views. Grazia has reached out to Shaun's team for comment on the cheating accusation, but is yet to receive a reply.

People's source says the pair are actually on good terms, although neither Nina or Shaun's personal reps chose to put out a public statement. It's possible that the news is still fresh for both of them and they will update fans in due course.

Given how much of their relationship they shared on social media, hard launching in May 2020 after moving in together during the pandemic and sharing the news of their engagement on Instagram last October, fans are likely to continue speculating online.
