It was undoubtedly the biggest (and most unusual) talking point of the Oscars. Yes, it even managed to garner more media attention than that almighty awards hiccup.
Nicole Kidman inspired a multitude of memes and GIFs after her, drum roll please, inability to clap.
With references to The Grinch's slender fingers, footage of the actress boasting a seal-like applauding technique led the Internet to ponder: has Nicole forgotten how to clap?
And Nicole, who was nominated for Best Actress in light of her stellar performance in Lion, has spoken out for the first time as regards to her now-famous blunder.
"It was really awkward, and I was like, 'Gosh, I really want to clap," the 49-year-old told Australian radio show, Kiss FM. "I don't want to not be clapping, which would be worse right? Why isn't Nicole Kidman clapping?"
But it turns out, the actress simply didn’t want to damage her Harry Winston ring. And we don't blame her, as the accessory boasted 119 carats worth of diamonds with a 13.58-carat pearl-shaped diamond set in platinum.
"So therefore I'm clapping but it was really difficult because I had this huge ring on which was not my own but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it," she continued.
Fair enough.
But what's her excuse for her equally bizarre clapping technique which debuted at the Oscars back in 2015?
We'll have to wait and see...
