_Love Island'_s Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury have recorded a video for fans, explaining why their new puppy, Mr Chai, died. The pair announced the sad news yesterday that their Pomeranian had passed away, less than a week after Molly-Mae received the pup for her birthday{ =nofollow}. 'We know there are such bigger issues going on in the world right now,' she wrote in the caption. 'We really didn't want to have to post this today, I just can't not give you all the explanation and truth. Tommy and I are not bad people, we hope this video gives you some understanding as to why our little Chai passed away. '

In the video, Molly addressed the controversy that the dog was imported from Russia - but insisted that the journey wasn’t the cause of Mr Chai’s death. The former islander previously said that she waiting for answers from vets - but in the video, she explained that the autopsy revealed that the dog’s skull wasn’t fully developed, meaning that part of his brain was exposed. The influencer also said he ‘didn't have a single white blood cell left in his body’ (meaning he couldn’t fight off any infections) and that his organs were enlarged.

However, Molly says that if they had the chance again they would have maybe opted for a rescue dog from the UK. ‘While we understand everyone's opinions about him being shipped over from Russia, you need to understand that this is not what made that baby dog pass away,’ she said. ‘That's not what made him die. He was going to die regardless. If we had the time again we would have got a dog from the UK or got a rescue dog from the UK.’

The reality star{ =nofollow}told fans she thought it was a prank when the vet called - and that Tommy vomited through shock after hearing of Mr Chai’s death. ‘I can’t even explain how happy we were when we got him,’ Molly said. ‘He was absolutely everything. He was just perfect. We just had our little baby – it was like we’d had a baby. For the first two days he was absolutely fine. From two days in, we started to pick up on a few things so we took him to the vet. I could tell something wasn’t right.’

Tiffany Chihuahuas & Pomeranians, the company which reportedly imported the dog, said the pup was 'healthy' and that this had 'never happened before' in a statement. ‘Mr Chai was a healthy dog,’ the company wrote on Facebook. ‘I only work with trusted people and have a small network of reputable breeders who care for their dogs to the very highest standards and see animals as part of their family. I have rigorous processes in place to check animal health and the suitability of forever homes providing support and guidance for health and wellbeing throughout. I have worked with dogs my entire life and this has never happened before.’
