Mel B has asked Tesco to stop right now, thank you very much – after her face appeared on an advert, which she seemed totally unaware of. On social media yesterday, Scary Spice demanded that the chain remove her picture from their Clubcard campaign.
The adverts in question – which feature a pic of her wearing leopard print from her time in the Spice Girls – appeared at bus stops, with a speech bubble coming out of her mouth saying, ‘Stop right now. You get 10% off two big shops a month for £7.99.’
Instagramming a photo of the advert yesterday, Mel made her anger clear, writing, ‘Can the CEO OF @tescofood DAVE LEWIS PLEASE CONTACT ME URGENTLY. Thank you.’ Fans found the whole affair hilarious, with one writing, 'I guess what they really, really want is a lawsuit, hun!' The Spice Girls support act Jess Glynne added, 'Someone fucked right up!'
Tesco has since told The Sun Online that they will no longer be using the advert. A spokesman told the website, ‘Here at Tesco we are really big fans of Mel B and were excited to feature her photo in our campaign. We had authorisation to use this image, but we’re sorry Mel B is unhappy and so we’ve stopped using it.'
