Meghan Markle has had quite the year. Shewelcomed her first son, Archie, in May and embarked on her first official royal tour in Africa with Prince Harry. She has also faced a barrage of criticism for everything from the alleged cost of her baby shower to her preferred mode of transport. She has also, according to global fashion platform Lyst, exerted more influence over women's wardrobes than any other famous person.
This is hardly surprising – whatever Meghan wears is always guaranteed to sell out almost immediately. And if she wears something bespoke, you can bet that a million copycat designs will soon emerge on the high street. Last year, Lyst put Meghan in third position in its annual report, behind Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. This year, however, there's been a 216% increase in online searches for the Duchess's fashion choices.
When in South Africa, Meghan wore a lot of shirt dresses, prompting a 45% increase in searches for them. The Club Monaco dress she wore to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu? It caused a 570% spike in searches, while searches for J Crew rose by 102% when she wore one of the brand's skirts.
So to celebrate Meghan's triumphant 2019, here's her year in outfits. Consider it a guilty pleasure – it's nearly Christmas, after all.
