Meghan’s Tourdrobe: The Royal Wardrobe Watch
By Lucy Morris Posted on 15 Oct 2018
After attending their second wedding of the year at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in Sydney for the start of their first royal tour overseas.
For the next 16 days expectant parents, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will be travelling around Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand. They have 76 engagements on the agenda - including cuddling koalas and beach yoga - plus, if the rumours are true, Meghan has 48 outfit changes on the agenda.
Considering the royal couple flew commercial (Quantas, if you’re wondering) those three outfits per day - three sets of shoes, bags, dresses, jeans, tops and coats - must have pushed their luggage ludicrously overweight. Jokes aside, that’s three opportunities a day for Meghan to play international sartorial diplomat by donning - as she has done in Canada and Wales before - local designers.
We expect to see her wear Ellery in Australia, Karen Walker and Kiwi-born Brit-based Emilia Wickstead in New Zealand and look forward to unearthing Tongan and Fijian designers that otherwise wouldn’t enjoy the worldwide spotlight a royal of Meghan’s magnitude can throw on a label.
After all, the Meghan effect is real and the mother-to-be will have this power at her fingertips as we and the rest of the world watch every fashion move she makes over the next two and a bit weeks.
For Meghan and Harry’s first stop after their 22-hour flight, the Duchess wore a maroon trimmed black coat and a few trusty favourite pieces. Beneath the coat she re-wore a black Wolford turtleneck with slim-fit black wool trousers and Sarah Flint Jay heels, all of which she’s been seen wearing previously.
