Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have only announced they’re expecting a baby in October, but preparations for the birth in Spring are already well underway. And according to royal insider Katie Nicholl, her birthing plan is likely to be much more private than we’re used to with fellow Duchess Kate Middleton.

Writing for Vanity Fair, Katie has revealed that Meghan is looking at various options, ‘reading up on natural-birthing techniques including hypnobirthing’ and could potentially give birth at home. As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, they are also likely to choose a hospital closer to their new home as oppose to St. Mary’s Hospital in London, which is used to accommodating their sister-in-law Kate for all three of her births.

Why not go down the typical Lindo Wing route? Well other than the fact Meghan may have different birthing plan ideas of her own, according to Nicholl, since Prince Harry is younger and less likely to be a future King, the birth of his and Meghan’s child doesn’t need to be as public as William and Kate’s, royal protocol wise.

As well as protocol alleviating the pressure of a public appearance straight after hours of squeezing and screaming, Meghan is also reportedly taking advice from her mother Doria Ragland, who is said to be encouraging a natural birth. ‘She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby,’ a source told Nicholl, ‘Doria will be involved and if she’s involved she will be encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.’

Doria will also have a suite in Frogmore Cottage so she can be on hand to help during those first weeks of chaos (did we say weeks, we meant years…). While Doria and Meghan may want a homebirth, it's unlikely, as despite having a straightforward pregnancy so far, since it’s her first doctors are likely to advise a hospital birth, according to Nicholl.

However, if it is more private than Kate’s, we may not see baby Sussex until official photo's are taken, unless Meghan and Harry choose to do a public appearance - and really, who wants full glam and to be hoisted into tights straight after giving birth? Kate is honestly a warrior and we don't doubt Meghan is grateful for the royal hierarchy at this point.

Of course, given her ability to do 76 engagements over 16 days while pregnant, baking in the meantime and looking flawless at every point, we similarly don't doubt that she'll be as ready for a photoshoot after birth as Kate has been with her three births. We're not sure what we'd love more, immediate photos of Baby Sussex to coo over or Meghan being able to a nap after squeezing a human out of her body...
