Yes, Megan Fox Is A Mum – And She Can Still Wear Whatever She Wants

The actress has been criticised for choosing to wear a sheer dress at the VMAs, as if being a mum means you're not allowed to be sexy anymore.

Red carpets are back - and nobody is dressing better for them than Megan Fox. Within the past week, the actress has sported incredible looks at the VMAs, and at the Met Gala. (OK, two events we could only ever dream of attending.) At last night'sMet Gala{ =nofollow}, she wore an incredible red cut-out dress, embellished with sequins and complete with Old Hollywood glamour red lipstick, and a full fringe, perfect for the theme of American fashion.

But it's her outfit at Sunday's VMAs which has really, ridiculously, caused controversy. At the ceremony in New York she opted for a glittering Mugler number and packed on the PDA with her boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly. But enough of the tonsil tennis. People were worried about the fact you could - shock horror - see her bum in a sparkly thong through the dress.

Apparently, according to trolls on Twitter, because Megan has three children she isn't allowed to wear what she wants. There have even been people asking if she remembered she had kids, as if she'd just suddenly forgotten. And for goodness sake, just because you're older and/or have children, that doesn't mean you're not sexy, that you can't look good in something more risqué. If you have the confidence to wear a sparkly thong, wear a sparkly thong! It's the classic, misogynistic, boring viewpoint that women lose their sex appeal as soon as they have a child, which we should all know by now is complete nonsense.

And for those who say 'think of the children' - it's not as if she was doing the school run, Megan was actually at an event which is famous for being outrageous - if anything, her head-turning outfit fitted right in. (And worth noting it's not kids who sexualise outfits, it's adults, who then push these opinions on children.)

There have also been some snarky men, comparing Megan going to an awards show in a sheer dress to not wanting to do nude scenes in Hollywood - as if these two things are comparable. 'She says she won’t do nudity in films and also complained about being sexualised by Hollywood, but is that contrary to the way she dresses, as she does here?' somebody, who probably thought they were being quite clever, asked on Twitter. But yes, it is different. Because Megan is allowed to chose that she doesn't want to appear naked in films. And she was horrifically sexualised by the industry when she was younger. (When she said Michael Bay – her director in the first two Transformers films - was difficult to work with{ =nofollow}, he rebuked in an open letter that she'd be better off working in the porn industry.) Just because she's previously called out the industry, doesn't take away her right to wear whatever she wants, on her own terms.
