The new series of Love Island hasn’t perhaps been as successful as ITV hoped. Maybe it’s because we’re all too cold (and jealous) to be watching singletons strut around in bikinis, or maybe it’s because we’re experiencing Love Island fatigue after only a short break, but, anyway, the show has lost one million viewers.
However, one person who thinks they know the answer to the falling ratings is last year’s contestant Maura Higgins.
‘I have seen that the viewers have dropped,’ she told The Sun. ‘Maybe it’s not getting as many viewers because they need Maura Higgins.’ And, to be honest, we don’t really disagree - winter Love Island probably does need a Maura. Coining her catchphrase ‘fanny flutters’, Maura injected some needed fun and drama when she was introduced to the villa, before getting with Curtis Pritchard.
But Maura - who is currently competing on Dancing On Ice - also thinks there’s another reason why less people are watching. ‘But I feel like I don’t find the boys as hot this series,’ she also told the paper. ‘I don’t fancy any of them.’ (Her boyfriend, Curtis, must be quite relieved then.)
One ex-contestant who has also been making headlines is previous winner Dani Dyer, who claims that she doesn't drink tap water due to a fear of being killed by the government. 'Yeah I believe in it, I'm so passionate’, the conspiracy theorist/2018 winner said on Good Morning Britain, after reassuring the hosts that she isn't dehydrated. ‘I feel rude if I go to someone’s house I will drink it, but I'm looking at every mouthful.'
