Our favourite thing about any biopic is picking our dream cast. Never has this been more true than with hit royal Netflix series The Crown, which promises to span the entirety of the Queen’s reign from the 1950s to the present day, with an endless cast of characters to meet.
While we still don’t have much information about who will be playing the likes of Princess Diana, Sarah Ferguson, Princes William and Harry and Kate Middleton yet, we do know that Michael C Hall and Jodi Balfour have been cast as JFK and Jackie Kennedy, who appear in episode 8 of the second season. Olivia Colman was recently revealed as the actress taking up the Queen role in seasons 3 and 4.
Now, one of the stars of the show has spoken about who he would like to play Prince Harry’s bride-to-be Meghan Markle, when the series gets around to 2017. Matt Smith, who plays the Queen’s husband Prince Philip in the series, told Andy Cohen that he’d like Selena Gomez to play the Suits star.
'Who’s that singer who goes out with Justin Bieber?' Smith asked.
'Selena Gomez?' Cohen suggested.
'You love Selena Gomez,' laughed Claire Foy, his co-star who plays the Queen.
Well there you have it. Selena Gomez – get practicing your best curtsy.
