After being swept up in the rumours surrounding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s impending divorce – simply by virtue of starring opposite Pitt in upcoming film Allied – Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard has released a statement on her personal Instagram account to set the record straight.
In her lengthy message, posted in both English or French, the star denied any involvement in the split, and confirmed that she is expecting a second child with her long-term partner Guillaume Canet.
‘This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,’ she wrote, captioning an abstract shot of a starry sky. ‘I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.’
The 40-year-old star went on to describe Canet, her partner of nearly ten years, as ‘the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting.’ The pair are already parents to 5-year-old Marcel.
‘He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need,’ she added, before politely quashing the rumours that she is ‘devastated’ at being dragged into the Brangelina split narrative.
‘Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing.’
‘And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgement, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.’
The actress chose to close her statement by sending her best wishes to the former couple, concluding, ‘I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.’
A trailer for Marion and Brad’s wartime drama Allied was released by Paramount earlier this week – on the same day it was revealed that Angelina had filed for divorce from her husband of two years, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’
