Since her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013, Margot Robbie has carved a career for herself playing badass women – with standout roles in The Legend of Tarzan to playing a psychiatrist turned psycho in Suicide Squad.
Whilst the 26-year-old actress has worked alongside veteran Hollywood star’s from Leo Dicaprio to Will Smith, it’s now Miss Robbie’s time to shine in her first lead role, as it’s been announced she’s been cast as the famed trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel who gained international stardom in the 1920s.
The script adapted from Dean N.Jensen’s 2013 biography Queen of the Air: A True Story of Love and Tragedy at the Circus focuses on Lillian's rise to the top alongside her Burton and Taylor-style relationship with fellow trapeze artist Alfredo Codona.

‘Her tragic love affair with Alfredo Codona, who may have been one of the best trapeze artists to ever flip under the big top, also was chronicled,’ according to the Hollywood Reporter. ‘The two were tempestuous artists, divas and madly in love.’
Margot Robbie is not stranger to the romance genre, but this role will (literally) stretch her like no other.
‘Leitzel, who was 4 foot, 9 inches tall, had a signature move that required her to dislocate her shoulder at every turn (she would do the move a hundred times),’ The Hollywood Reporter writes. ‘And had wrists that had been grooved from ropes.’
Well, considering Margot trained three hours a day to get into shape to play Harley Quinn, we have no doubt she’ll take to trapeze just fine.
...and give Tarzan a run for his money in the process.
