Following yesterday's reports that Margot Robbie has married her long-term boyfriend Tom Ackerley in a ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast, the actress has taken to Instagram to confirm the news.
The Wolf of Wall Street and Suicide Squad star shared a picture of her and her new husband as she flashed her pear shaped engagement ring.
Robbie was spotted touching down in Aus earlier this week in a t-shirt bearing the words "Say ‘I Do’ Down Under".
According to the Australian media, Margot and Tom tied the knot near the actress’s hometown of Dalby, with Margot’s mother walking her down the aisle and her sister Anya acting as maid of honour.
26-year-old Tom is an assistant director, who has previously worked on films like Macbeth, Pride and The Two Faces Of January. The couple, who first met while working on the film Suite Francaise in 2013, sparked engagement rumours earlier this year, when Margot was pictured at the premiere for The Legend Of Tarzan sporting a ring on her wedding finger.
Though Margot tends to keep her love life out of the spotlight (and the pair have never been photographed together at high profile industry events), the actress did open up about her relationship in a recent interview with US Vogue, revealing that the pair started off as friends.
‘The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,’ she explained. ‘And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, “Oh, he would never love me back” […] And then it happened, and I was like, “Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”'
The couple currently live together in Shepherd’s Bush, London, but it‘s thought that Margot has always been keen to return home to get married. A source close to the pair told Australian magazine Woman’s Daily that ‘Tom initially wanted to get married in the UK, but he knows how much it means to Margot to tie the knot on home soil and how special it is for her, so he didn’t put up much of a fight.’
‘They decided to marry around Christmas so they could spend time with both their families afterwards.’
It’s the perfect end to what’s been a banner year for Margot, whose string of high-profile roles culminated in this summer’s much-anticipated Suicide Squad, where she stole the show as Harley Quinn (and inspired everyone’s Halloween costumes in the process).
