Naturally, we all have loads of questions about the First Lady of The United States - and now it turns out they could be answered... By Louis Theroux! In a new interview, the veteran documentary maker has expressed his interest in making a film all about Melania Trump, who he has called a ‘metaphorical prisoner’ of being Donald Trump’s wife.
‘I think there’s a story that they’re putting out doppelgängers [of Melania],’ he told Grazia this week. ‘Do you think it’s true? That would be an interesting story. I mean, it’s always a balance between who you imagine would be interesting and who’s likely to actually say yes, isn’t it?'
‘You would sort of film with her in this kind of gilded cage that she inhabits,’ he told Press Association in another interview. 'There’s something of “could she have known what she was signing on for?”’ he continued, speaking about her marriage to President Donald Trump. ‘Did she just think she was marrying a billionaire, who she thought was perhaps quite funny, and interesting?’ (Who knows Louis, who knows?) ‘And then now, she’s a prisoner of – I mean, I’m speaking hypothetically because we don’t really know, do we – but she’s a metaphorical prisoner of that lifestyle.’
Louis is returning to BBC Two on Sunday with his latest programme, Mothers on the Edge, which will see him visit new mothers suffering from mental illnesses.
Last year, the TV favourite teased that When Louis Met… could be returning to TV - and that he’d like Nigel Farage, WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange, and Roseanne Barr to appear. Anyway, we sure hope this documentary on Melania happens.
