It’s not everyday you receive a letter from Michelle Obama herself, so it’s hardly surprising that Lily Collins was over-the-moon at her latest piece of mail.

Collins took to Instagram to share the exciting news that the former First Lady had written to her personally.

Obama penned a note of thanks to the actress for sending her her new book, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me - a collection of honest essays on issues affecting young women today.

In her letter, Obama thanked Collins for sending the book and called it a ‘nice gesture’ she is looking forward to sharing with her two daughters.

‘The outpouring of support I have received from women across the country continues to amaze me and I am filled with a great sense of hope for our shared future,’ Obama wrote.

‘I heard this quote recently and it reminded me of your book so I wanted to share it with you. “Here's to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”’ the letter concluded.

Naturally, Collins was delighted to receive the correspondence, and did not hide her excitement via Instagram.

‘Best way to start off my week! I can't believe this letter I received from someone I deeply respect and admire. It's absolutely epic. I'm in complete shock but just had to share!’ Collins wrote.

‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart Michelle Obama for your encouragement and support. You have no idea how much this means to me. And that Wonder Woman stamp is everything. You truly are such an incredible inspiration. I'll definitely be framing these!’
