When he ascended to the throne on 8 September 2022 after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III had lots of decisions to make regarding the future of the monarchy.
And, with his coronation and the great debate over whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be attending the historic event looming as 6 May draws ever closer, it seems that the King has finally made his decision about the two LA-based royals.
According to royal insiders, King Charles has issued an eviction notice to Harry and Meghan forcing them to move out of Frogmore Cottage – the couple’s only UK home – and has offered the property to disgraced royal Prince Andrew.
Sources told The Sun, ‘This surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the UK.’
However, despite seeming to be the beneficiary in this instance, reports state that Prince Andrew’s move to the Windsor-based property only comes after his own eviction from the Royal Lodge – a 30-room royal mansion, boasting a 98-acre estate that Andrew has lived in since 2003.
It is also claimed that King Charles plans to cut Andrew’s £249,000 annual allowance, meaning that whether or not he moves into Frogmore Cottage – sources currently state that he’s kicking up a fuss around the situation – the Duke of York will require a smaller property so as to live within his means.
Frogmore Cottage was originally gifted to Harry and Meghan by Queen Elizabeth as a wedding present in 2018, but this isn’t the first time that the five-bedroom property has been at the centre of royal controversy.
Before the Sussexes moved in in April 2019, they ordered £2.3 million worth of renovations, paid for by taxpayers money. However, the situation was resolved when the pair stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and paid back the cost, instead leasing the property privately.
An insider explained the situation, ‘Harry and Meghan have until early summer to vacate. Initially they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation.’
A friend of the couple added, ‘It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment. It’s like [the family] want to cut them out of the picture for good.’
Whilst this news doesn’t necessarily mean that Meghan and Harry won’t be attending King Charles’ coronation, this latest action from him – presumably in response to Harry’s autobiography ‘Spare’ – is likely to cause further fractions within the family.
