Kate Middleton paid tribute to her late mother-in-law's legacy at the Buckingham Palace state banquet last night, by wearing one of her favourite tiaras.

The occasion in question was a truly royal affair. Queen Elizabeth II hosted a state banquet to honour Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia who are currently visiting the UK. Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Camilla also in attendance.

Kate Middleton dazzled in a regal lace pink gown by Marchesa. Commentators were quick to point out that the low-cut gown was a more risqué choice for the Duchess, who seldom wears plunging necklines. The Duchess paired the dress with a sparkling necklace on loan from the Queen.

The pièce de résistance of Kate's look, though, was the diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara. The tiara was a wedding gift to the late Princess Diana from the Queen, and was known to be one of her favourite pieces. The Duchess is clearly very fond of the tiara as she wore it at last year's state banquet, too.

This is not the first time Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has channelled Princess Diana. She has been known to model her style on the late princess on numerous occasions. What is more, it certainly isn't difficult to draw parallels between the nation's affection for Kate and the national love for the people's princess, Diana.

The prestigious state banquet was part of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia's three-day visit to the UK, and marks 31 years since Felipe's father, Juan Carlos, last visited. Over one thousand people from 130 countries around the world attended the banquet to celebrate the bonding of nations with the hope that relations over Brexit and Gibraltar will improve.
