Kate Middleton and Prince William have been pictured arriving at Windsor Castle as mourners gather for the funeral of Prince Philip this afternoon.
While the couple both wore customary black, Kate accessorised her sombre outfit with elegant jewellery dripping with sentimental value. The four-strand pearl choker from the Queen’s collection was previously borrowed by Prince Harry’s late mother Diana, and Kate’s diamond drop earrings are believed to have been gifted to the Queen in 1947 to mark her wedding to Philip.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore the necklace in 2017 to an official dinner for Philip and Queen's 70th anniversary.
The understated pieces pay homage to two important royal women, while the earrings in particular are a touching nod to the Queen’s 73-year marriage as her husband is laid to rest.
Kate often chooses jewellery full of symbolism and history, from her charm pendants bearing her children's initials (G, C and L for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis) to the breathtaking Cartier necklace believed to be a 30th birthday present from her husband Prince William.
