Julie Andrews on The Princess Diaries 3: ‘It Would Be Lovely’

When Anne Hathaway revealed back in February during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, that a script was in the works for a 3rd Princess Diaries movie, fans around the world could hardly contain their excitement for the return of Mia Thermopolis.

When Dame Julie Andrews, who played Queen Clarisse of Genovia, appeared on the show this week, she at first seemed surprised to hear there was a three-quel in the works.

‘I haven’t heard [there’s a script finished],” she says, as reported by People. ‘There’s been talk about [a third movie] for quite a while,’.

Rumours of a third instalment have been swirling around for a few years now. The first Princess Diaries film, adapted from the series of books of the same title by author Meg Cabot, came out in 2001, with the sequel A Royal Engagement being released in 2004. So right now, it’s been 15 years since Mia Thermopolis became Her Majesty Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi! Who knows when/if the third movie will be released? Andrews revealed both her and Hathaway’s schedules are pretty busy, and Anne is also pregnant with her second child but we have our fingers crossed in any case.

In February, Anne Hathaway said ‘We all really want it to happen, it's just we don't want to do it unless it's perfect.’
