Thanks to her outspoken interview style and ability to steal the show with red carpet tumbles and photobombs, Jennifer Lawrence is seen as one of Hollywood's most down-to-earth stars - the sort of person you can imagine as your best friend (or at least, the actress who'd play your best friend in a silver screen re-imagining of your life story...) She's normal, right?
In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, the star is characteristically forthright on the subject of what it actually means to be 'normal' in Hollywood, particularly when it comes to body image.
'I would like us to make a new normal-body type,' she says, adding that 'Everybody says, "We love that there is somebody with a normal body!" And I'm like, "I don't feel like I have a normal body."'
The actress, who will star in X-Men: Apocalypse in May, goes on to detail her fitness routine, explaining that 'I do Pilates every day. I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person.' According to Jennifer, it's the film industry's warped perception of female body image that leads the media to brand her as 'normal.' 'I think we've gotten so used to underweight that when you are a normal weight it's like "Oh my God, she's curvy." Which is crazy. The bare minimum, just for me, would be to up the ante,' she says, before laughing 'at least so I don't feel like the fattest one.'
And while she regularly tops our (unofficial) list of 'celebrities we'd most like to go on a night out with,' Jennifer claims that she doesn't quite live up to the stereotype. 'I don't really stay out late [...] I'm kind of a nana' she says, before adding 'If I do stay out late and I'm partying hard, I will throw up. I don't have the tolerance to black out.'
Luckily, the Joy star has help on hand in the form of fellow actress, Emma Stone. Remember when the pair were spotted in a taxi with Adele and redefined the term 'squad goals'? Well, it turns out that their A-list night out was, well, a bit like when you get together with your university friends and it all goes slightly off-kilter. 'Ask Emma Stone. It was the night we saw Adele in LA. She just started rubbing my back. She was really sweet.'
Who doesn't need a friend like Emma Stone?
In further 'relatable' news, Jennifer explains the real reason she chose to wear one particular Dior gown to the Golden Globes in January. 'That was my Plan B dress. Plan A was a dress that I couldn't wear because awards season is synced with my menstrual cycle, and it has been for years [...] I didn't have to worry about sucking anything in. The other dress was really tight, and I'm not going to suck in my uterus. I don't have to do that.' Amen, Jennifer.
