Amid the reems and reems of blue-ticks littering the comments on Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury’s baby announcement earlier this week were a number of mere mortals in search of one in particular.
‘Anyone else here looking for Jake Paul’s comment?’
‘Where the Jake Paul comment at?’
Last week, YouTuber Jake Paul - who’s scheduled to fight Tommy in a boxing match in February – came under fire for seemingly breaking the news that baby Hague-Fury had already arrived when he wrote on Twitter, ‘Tommy has no excuses now…baby’s born. Money’s massive. Immigration no issue.’
Tommy and Molly-Mae had been silent on social media for a few days by that point, and their own adorable baby announcement posted earlier this week revealed their bundle of joy had in fact arrived on the 23rd of January, days before Jake Paul’s tweet.
As if his Paul’s ‘announcement’ transpiring to be true wasn’t bad enough, those trawling Instagram for an inflammatory comment weren’t left disappointed when, predictably, the controversial former Disney channel star couldn’t help but pipe up.
‘Just in time to watch your dad get knocked out,’ was the line of attack he went for; and while there were the inevitable Paul-supporters rofl-ing (do people still say that?) at the YouTuber’s supposed comedic genius, others found the comment decidedly less hilarious.
‘No matter your opinion on the whole Jake Paul and Tommy Fury situ, it’s just morally wrong to a) announce the birth of someone else’s baby and b) comment on their announcement post with such an inappropriate comment,’ wrote one commenter.
‘F**k off man, just let them have their happy moment,’ said another.
Male sporting events are always a cesspool of hysterical testosterone, but this is a low blow, even for him. Where does Jake Paul get off trying to make the biggest moment in Tommy’s life so far all about him? And not just Tommy – he’s been intent on dragging Molly-Mae through the mud too, claiming last year that she’d reached out to him on Instagram to ‘show her around’ the States and even faked a screenshot. That said, Tommy’s recent comments to the BBC that he’s ‘got [his] sole sight focused on Jake Paul’ suggests that the new dad may need to reassess some of his priorities, too. At the centre of these overt – some might argue toxic - displays of masculinity is a new-born baby and a first-time mum, who both need the utmost care and respect. Let’s not forget that.
