Jack Black has joined Gwyneth Paltrow in the elite club of actors who have forgotten about one of their most prominent roles. The noughties icon seemingly forgot he ever starred in The Holiday, which makes no sense given it was literally his best performance of all time (according to very official standards as rated by the Grazia office – sorry School of Rock fans).
In a red-carpet interview with Variety, Black was asked what his favourite holiday film was – to which he replied, ‘it’s got to be Elf’ and complimented Jon Favreau and Will Ferrell’s performance. ‘I appreciate the humility you could’ve said your own movie,’ Angelique Jackson, the interviewer, replies.
‘Do I have a Christmas movie?', Black questions, asking Jackson, 'Which one is mine?'. Of course, it doesn't take long for him to remember he actually stars in one of the best Christmas films ever made and suddenly concludes yes, The Holiday is in fact his favourite holiday film. ‘Nancy Myers, genius! Let's do this!’ he says before running off into the distance - presumably to tell his publicist he needs a cheat sheet of every film he's ever been in before red carpets in future.
Honestly, you have to have reached an elite level of acting fame to forget not only your own work, but also your best performances. This can only be compared to Paltrow forgetting she was in pretty much every Marvel movie ever made – and all of her co-stars too.
To be fair to Black, he has starred in over 60 films during his near 40-year career, many of which have been smash-hits. But still, forgetting getting with Kate Winslet? We can’t relate.
