The bromance no one saw coming: Hugh Grant and Travis Kelce. Apparently the Eras Tour was more than the highest grossing solo tour of all time, it was also the birthplace of Kelce and Grant's big night out.
In an interview with NME, Grant revealed that he first enquired about Taylor Swift tickets on behalf of his eight-year-old daughter (probably begrudgingly, let's be honest). To the envy of millions, he wound up in the VIP area of Wembley Stadium in June and had one of the best nights ever. He said, 'It’s my daughter who’s mad about Taylor Swift. I’m an amazing dad. I’m an amazing person. I put out some feelers and to my astonishment, they said, "Come along," and I thoroughly enjoyed it.'
The Notting Hill actor continued, 'She went mad, my daughter. She brought a friend and they were bopping away.
'And I hung out with Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who’s an American football player. We did tequila shots at the back of this kind of hut in the middle of Wembley. And there were a bunch of, I think they were, rappers. I dunno what they were. Anyway, we all got absolutely smashed on tequila,' he added.
The charmingly miserable British actor and the American football player-cum-boyfriend of Taylor Swift certainly make an unlikely pair. But it looks like Kelce made quite the impression on old Grant. 'We went crazy,' he added.
As for the shots themselves, the Wonka actor was less enamoured. 'It’s revolting, isn’t it? As long as you’ve got a bit of lime and some salt...'
Famous for, well, not having a good time at public-facing events, Grant had such a good time at the Eras Tour that he took to X the following day to thank Swift again. He wrote, 'Dear @taylorswift13, You have an incredible show, an amazing and v hospitable team and excellent if gigantic boyfriend (#tequilashots). Thanks so much from one ageing London boy, wife and thrilled 8-year-old #halfgirlhalfbracelet.'
The singer responded to the actor, 'As a long time Hugh Grant stan this tweet is very important to my culture.' Well, if Swift and Kelce fancy two for one tickets to see Grant's new horror film, Heretic, we're sure he'd be happy to hook them up too.
Swift’s Eras Tour continues with upcoming dates in Canada and is set to conclude on 8 December in Vancouver. Other star guests at her London shows included the Prince of Wales, Keir Starmer, Tom Cruise, Sophie Turner, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul McCartney, to name a few.
If anything, this whole exchange has put the image of Grant dancing to 'Shake It Off' in a beaded bracelet next to two eight-year-olds and a 6'5 American footballer in our heads, and for that we can only be grateful.
