So, this is it guys. Parliament will be suspended so Boris Johnson can have more control over Brexit without input from the people who were actually voted to represent Britain – and it feels the UK is burning to the ground. It is a trying, terrifying time for our democratic country. So what do we do in times like this? We look for comfort and support in those we love most. Namely, Hugh Grant.

What is Hugh doing to invoke adoration in the masses? Unfortunately, it’s not bringing back the golden age of romcoms. But actually, it’s kind of even better: he has started a Twitter war with Boris Johnson. And honestly, the sheer profanity of his tweets alone with have you gasping for air.

After Boris Johnson posted a video in which he defends his decision to suspend parliament, Hugh replied will the following statement:

‘You will not fuck with my children’s future. You will not destroy the freedoms my grandfather fought two world wars to defend. Fuck off you over-promoted rubber bath toy. Britain is revolted by you and you little gang of masturbatory prefects.'

Pure poetry.

Receiving near 300,000 likes and over 70,000 replies, his tweet has quickly amassed tons of attention and support. It seems he is speaking for a huge amount of people in the UK.

His tweet sits among thousands about the current state of UK politics, with many powerful moments shared online since the news broke about the suspension of parliament. In fact, one excerpt from the Financial Times that states ‘If Mr Johnson’s prorogation ploy succeeds, Britain will forfeit any right to lecture other countries on their democratic shortcomings,’ has received over 7,000 likes.

A compilation video of various Conservative MPs – including Boris Johnson – denouncing the idea of ever suspending parliament is also attracting a lot of attention.

One of the most moving viral posts comes from a Sky News report that featured a Portuguese woman who has worked in Britain for 20 years talk about how she scared she felt at the prospect of a no-deal Brexit. ‘I looked after your children… your elderly… you must make me part of this process’, she says.
