It comes after the singer revealed that he paid for Harry, Meghan and baby Archie's flight to his home in Nice to ‘maintain a high level of much-needed protection’ - adding that he ensured the flight was carbon neutral by making a donation to a carbon footprint fund.
Writing on Twitter last night, Jameela called for the press to stop bullying the couple because Harry ‘married a black woman’.
The Good Place star also pointed out that it would potentially be unsafe for the public to travel with the royals due to kidnap or assassination attempts.
Meanwhile, yesterday morning, the Raise Your Glass singer urged the public to be kinder to the royal couple.
‘I'm happy to see people coming to the defense of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,’ she tweeted.
‘The way people treat her is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while. It's out of control. Let's all be a bit kinder, huh? Let's show our children that it's cool to be kind.'
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced criticism for their reported use of four private jets in 11 days, especially as last month Harry told conservation expert Dr Jane Goodall that the couple planned to limit the size of their family because of the environment.
Recently, Harry also gave a speech about climate change to a group of celebrities - believed to include Harry Styles and Naomi Campbell - at Camp Google in Sicily.
‘I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,’ John tweeted on Monday.
‘Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.
‘After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home.
‘To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.’
He added, ‘I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.’
John - who attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding - famously performed at Diana’s funeral in 1997, singing a reworked version of Candle In The Wind.
