Whether it’s vaginal steaming or an 8-day goat milk cleanse, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop knows how to get people riled up when it comes to dishing out health and wellbeing advice.
The latest post on the site to cause a furore is all about ‘busting diet myths.’ The piece features an interview with Traci Mann, Ph.D. about why diets don’t work and specifically how to achieve ‘your leanest livable weight.’
‘Your leanest livable weight is the weight at the low end of your set range. Your set range is a genetically determined range of weight that your body generally keeps you in, despite your efforts to escape it,’ the article explains.
While the article itself does not actually encourage calorie counting, the antagonising headline caused outrage on Twitter with users sharing their disdain at the choice of wording.
‘Jesus Christ! Stop it goop. Just stop,’ one user wrote in response.
‘Aka, how to be as thin as possible without dying,’ another added.
Others were quick to call out the lifestyle brand for shaming women. ‘How about encouraging women and girls to be a healthy weight?’ one wrote.
Unsurprisingly, some of Goop’s fans were quick to defend the article too.
‘You people are trolls who didn't even read the article,’ one responded.
‘You just read a headline, misunderstand, and use it as a soap box to pretend they are saying something they are not. Most of the article is about how starving yourself and "ideal weight" are not worthy goals, but one should focus on health,’ someone else pointed out.
