Gwyneth Paltrow is pretty open-minded when it comes to offbeat trends, whether that's vaginal steaming or an 8-day goat's milk cleanse.
But there's one fad she's really not on-board with, and it's of a seafood variety.
The Oscar-winning actress can't stomach octopus, branding it "too smart" to eat.
The star's strong feelings on the topic were unveiled during a Slack chat about LA restaurants with her Goop co-workers.
One of her colleagues suggested recommended barbequed octopus at a nearby venue, to which Gwyneth replied:
"Octopus are too smart to be food. They have more neurons in their brains than we do. I had to stop eating them because I was so freaked out by it.
"They can escape from sea world and shit by unscrewing drains and going out to sea. #tangent."
Her colleague responded, saying "Oh jeese, I didn't even think about that!"
"Wow. Ya learn something new every day," someone else replied.
A screenshot of the chat was posted to Goop's Instagram page but has since been deleted.
Octopuses are indeed part of a group of slimy mollusks that possess relatively large brains, according to this 2009 article from Scientific American. However, the author notes that describing them as "smart" is probably an exaggeration.
"Octopuses, some 300 species of which inhabit tropical waters around the world, can change colors, squirt out poison, and exert a force greater than their own body weight," it says. "But calling the eight-armed cousin of your garden snail "smart" seems a bit of a stretch."
