The first major date in this year's packed awards calendar can now be ticked off, and the red carpet for the 74th annual Golden Globes ceremony provided enough fashion escapism to shake off our January blues for good.
While many actresses choose to go classic (read that as 'Disney princess') for the Oscars later in the year, the Globes red carpet is often a little more laid back. It's often an opportunity for a stylist to take fashion risks with their clients - and gamble on whether they'll pay off.
Last year's ceremony proved to be a statement of sartorial intent for fashion-forward newcomers like Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson and Saoirse Ronan, who went on to conquer the BAFTAs and the Academy Awards with their unpredictable - but perfectly pitched - style choices.
This time around, it was the likes of Loving star Ruth Negga and Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown who stole the show - the former resplendent in custom gold Louis Vuitton, the latter wearing the sequined party dress that our 12-year-old dreams were made of.
Joining them on the red carpet were the likes of Emma Stone in starry Valentino (surely a La La Land reference*), Natalie Portman (channelling Jackie in mustard Prada and a Sixties beehive) and Lily Collins in fairytale Zuhair Murad couture.
As for the men, our perennial red carpet favourites Eddie Redmayne and Ryan Gosling looked stylish as ever, with strong competition from the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Donald Glover and John Legend.
Drum roll please: our favourite looks from the night came courtesy of...
Amy Adams
Honestly, Amy Adams could have turned up to the Beverly Hilton in a bin bag and we would have placed her on this list, such is our enduring love for the Arrival star. As it happens, she looked a dream in sequinned Tom Ford (if we were pals with the designer-director, we'd call in a favour too...)
Millie Bobby Brown
It's hard to believe that this is MBB's first red carpet season, because the 12-year-star of Stranger Things is handling it like a true pro. The Golden Globes' youngest guest looked lovely in a sequinned party dress by Jenny Packham, paired with heels by Sophia Webster - we're sure that (unlike our pre-teen fashions) Millie will look back at photos in years to come and still approve of her choice.
Naomie Harris
Naomie, who was nominated for her searing performance in Moonlight, opted for the 'dress like the trophy' route - pulling it off and then some in this shimmering, beaded gown with an Old Hollywood sweetheart neckline. And who does high octane red carpet dressing better than Armani?
Ruth Negga
Yes, more sequins - this time courtesy of Loving's Ruth Negga, who is fast emerging as one of the most stylish actresses to watch. She embraced some futuristic vibes (just the right side of C3P0, we say...) in form-fitting Louis Vuitton - we expect to see her sitting front row next season...
Emma Stone
In what must surely have been a reference to La La Land's standout track ('City of Stars,' do keep up...), Emma chose a delicate pink gown by Valentino, emblazoned with glittering stars. Perfection.
