For the first time since it was confirmed that his wife Amal is expecting twins, George Clooney has spoken out about becoming a father.
During an interview with French film journalist Laurent Weil on Rencontres de Cinema on Sunday, the actor couldn't stop smiling as he confirmed the news, revealing that he and his wife are 'really happy and really excited.'
'It's going to be an adventure,' he added. 'We've sort of embraced it all with arms wide open.'
George, who received an honourary César Award in Paris over the weekend, said that his group of friends had been 'very supportive' about his impending fatherhood - though when they first heard the news, they couldn't resist poking a little fun at the star.
Describing the moment he shared the news with his friends, many of whom already have grown-up children, the actor revealed: 'It got really quiet, and they all just started making baby crying noises, and the whole table just busted up laughing.'
While Clooney will be 56 by the time the twins are born (their due date is thought to be in June), he told the interviewer that he is inspired by 89-year-old French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, who welcomed a child aged 70.
'So, I'm feeling a little better about being 56 by the time [the twins arrive],' he laughed.
After speculation about Amal's pregnancy arose at the start of the year, TV host Julie Chen announced the news on The Talk in early February.
George's close friend Matt Damon was the next to confirm, telling a reporter: 'I'm thrilled for them. [Amal] is amazing. He hit the jackpot, just on every level. They're gonna be awesome parents. Those kids are lucky.'
