One of our favourite moments in last season’s Fleabag was undoubtedly themini Killing Eve crossover, when Fiona Shaw - aka spy boss Carolyn Martens - appeared as Fleabag’s therapist. (‘Do you really want to fuck the priest, or do you want to fuck God?’)
And, from the sound of things, Fiona enjoyed filming the scene with Phoebe Waller-Bridgejust as much as we enjoyed watching it - even if she was kept on her toes by Phoebe re-writing the scene while they were actually filming it.
Speaking about the scene at theBafta TV Awards last night, Fiona told Grazia, ‘We just did it one morning and she [Phoebe] was spinning plates; she was acting in it and she was re-writing it - while I was sitting in that chair. And I was relearning it! She was just changing things, and acting in it, while Harry [Bradbeer] was directing it. It was the most astonishing morning for just this tiny scene.’
The actress also revealed how Phoebe Waller-Bridge had to persuade her to take part in Fleabag, as her schedule was jam-packed thanks to Killing Eve. ‘Well, once you get talking, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know,’ she laughed. ‘By the end of last year she said, “Can you do something for Fleabag?” And I said I don’t have the time, I’m doing so much with Killing Eve, I just can’t. Fleabag ran on a bit later than they thought, and she said, “Please can you play this psychotherapist?”’
Well, we're glad Fiona somehow found the time.
