The 2024 TV BAFTAs is currently in full swing as celebrities gather in celebration of the best of British TV. Among the talented celebrities nominated for a BAFTA this year is David Tennant, who picked up a nomination in the Best Male Comedy Performance category for his role in Good Omens. The 53-year-old however lost the award to Mawaan Rizwan, the writer, comedian and creator of Juice who won his first BAFTA and delivered a hilarious, heart-warming speech in the process.
Despite Rizwan’s worthy win, fans of David Tennant have taken to social media to condemn the decision of the BAFTA members – who are industry peers that vote for the winners – saying that David was ‘snubbed’ this year.
‘And again no #bafta for our #davidtennant,’ one fan wrote on X. ‘AGAIN...what does that man have to do to win one? He deserves all of the awards. One day Sir, you will win an Oscar. Way overdue anyway. Ugh!!! #givethismanawards #davidtennant’
‘Let's not talk about his astounding acting in this scene because we all know it's Oscar's material BUT even this single movement of his THROAT deserved a BAFTA.'
'There's no need for me to comment further, these GIFs talk for me. But I'm disappointed and sad. #DavidTennant #BAFTAs,’ another said.
David Tennant has been nominated for five BAFTAs over the years, winning one in 2007 at BAFTA Cymru, four from 2009-2021 at BAFTA Scotland – for which he won one in 2014 for The Escape Artist - and his most recent nomination became his first for BAFTA UK. Rest assured though Tennant has received many a flower in his long career of acting, winning 34 awards in total over the 72 he’s been nominated for!
Alas, his strong fanbase remains indignant that he should’ve won at the BAFTAs tonight – perhaps even for his outfit alone, which is also being celebrated as Met Gala worthy online. Tennant wore a flower embroidered black suit for the red carpet.
Obsessed!
