It may not be hitting cinemas until next Christmas but we’re already excited about Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. The adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott has been written and directed by Lady Bird creator Greta Gerwig, and she’s already signed on an all-star cast.
Earlier this year it was confirmed Emma Watson would join the cast as the character of Meg March, after Emma Stone had to drop out due to scheduling issues.
Watson took to Twitter yesterday to give fans a sneak peak behind-the-scenes on set. Watson shared the Louisa May Alcott quote: “I could never love anyone as I love my sisters,” and a polaroid photo of her fellow cast members.
In the photo (going clockwise from Watson) is Greta Gerwig, Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Florence Pugh as Amy March, Eliza Scanlen as Beth March and Timothée Chalamet as Theodore Laurence (aka Laurie). Lady Bird fans will be pleased to see Gerwig has cast Ronan and Chalamet for a second time together.
The story, which follows the lives of four sisters from their youth to adulthood, has been adapted for film and TV numerous times. Most recently as a three part drama shown on the BBC last Christmas.
Beyond the photo, the cast list is equally impressive. Meryl Streep, James Norton, Laura Dern and Chris Cooper also all star.
Little Women hits cinemas in the US on Christmas Day 2019 and arrives in the UK a few weeks later on Friday January 17 2020
