Emma Watson has headed underground to share copies of one of her favourite books, and we’re pretty sure that Hermione Granger would approve.
Taking part in the Books on the Underground campaign, the actress surprised commuters at St John’s Wood station by hiding copies of Maya Angelou’s autobiographical work Mom & Me & Mom, which is the November choice for Emma’s Instagram book club, Our Shared Shelf.
The Harry Potter star placed a handwritten note inside each of the 100 free books, bearing a special message: ‘You are the founder of Our Shared Shelf’s monthly book choice. Each pick is made with love and attention – we hope you like it.’
‘Just one hundred copies were hidden on the tube… Take special care of it and when you are finished please leave it on the tube for someone else to find.’
Emma took to Instagram to let her followers know about her literary treasure hunt, writing ‘I’ve been hiding copies of Mom & Me & Mom for @booksontheunderground on the tube today! See if you can find one tomorrow.’ It's just like a low-tech literary version of Pokémon Go...
She also posted a video clip, showing her dropping copies of Angelou’s book on the rail of the escalator.
Emma, who is set to star in Disney's much-anticipated live action remake of Beauty and the Beast next year (take a look at the latest images from the film here), launched her book club Our Shared Shelfat the start of the year to focus on reading and discussing feminist literature. Previous choices have included Alice Walker's The Color Purple, graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and How To Be A Woman by Caitlin Moran.
