It was a pretty special year for Eddie Redmayne last year – he won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and also was named by the Queen in her June Birthday Honours List; the actor was awarded an OBE for services to drama, an honour he collected at Windsor last week at an investiture ceremony.

Speaking to the Press Association afterwards, Eddie said: 'It is something that I had never thought of and it was never in my wildest imagination,' He went on to say, 'It was absolutely wonderful. Also being with such extraordinary people the whole experience is incredibly humbling and also getting to be in Windsor Castle is breathtaking, around Christmas as well with all the decorations.'

Our hearts are fluttering a bit because, well, how sweet!

When asked what the Queen had said to him, Eddie replied: 'She was asking me whether I prefer film or theatre, and asked me if I enjoyed it. I'm very lucky to do something I am passionate about - I'm very grateful to do something I love because it is a rare thing.'

There was a slight hiccup to the day, however – how little sleep Eddie and his wife Hannah Bagshawe had the night before. Their daughter Iris May (who Hannah gave birth to in June earlier this year) apparently has 'the habit of knowing when you have a big day, like today,' Eddie told reporters. 'And she was up until four in the morning, so both my wife and I came today with matchsticks under our eyes.'

Judging by the pictures of the handsome couple however, there's only one thing we can say to that: we'd never have known!
