THe Kennedys are pratically American royalty, so it's hardly a surprise to learn that the former First family will be appearing in the much-anticipated second season of Netflix's The Crown.
The lavish period drama, which picked up two Golden Globes at this year's ceremony and two further SAG Awards for Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth) and John Lithgow (Winston Churchill) has cast Michael C. Hall, best known for the title role in Dexter as John F. Kennedy, with South African actress Jodi Balfour appearing as his wife Jackie.
The pair will reportedly appear in one episode of the next season, concerning their 1961 state visit to Buckingham Palace. Speaking to Variety, the show's creators describe Jackie as 'a seemingly natural First Lady, but whose charming exterior of confidence and glamour hides a shy woman who loathes public life.'
Her husband, meanwhile, 'is most at home in front of a crowd — a natural leader and excellent public speaker who does not take kindly to being upstaged by anyone, especially his wife.'
Balfour will join a long line of actresses who have represented the iconic First Lady on screen: it's a role that has most recently been taken on by Natalie Portman in Jackie (earning Portman an Oscar nomination for her efforts) and Katie Holmes in The Kennedys, a TV mini-series.
The show's producers have also revealed that the second season will begin 'with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ends with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, after a devastating scandal.'
We can't wait...
