Never afraid to voice her views in a candid and straightforward way, Chrissy Teigen has spoken out against the misconception that all women want to have children.
The model, who welcomed her first daughter, Luna with husband John Legend 11 months ago, described motherhood as ‘a choice,’ and explained why it’s so important not to automatically expect that all women want to conform to a particular societal norm.
After Refinery29 journalist Arianna Davis mentioned during an interview with Chrissy that she was ‘on the fence’ about having children in the future, the 32-year-old praised her for speaking honestly, telling her, ‘First of all, I want to commend you in your decision to be open about maybe not having children at all.’
‘I think it’s really commendable to even doubt the process out loud, because I don’t feel like people should be pressured to have children,’ she added.
‘I’m very sure that when you announce that fact to somebody, they’re very quick to be like, “Gasp! Why don’t you want kids?” And I’ve never been that way with people, because I don’t think any of us should assume all women’s goals are to have kids. It’s a choice.’
We couldn’t agree more, Chrissy.
This is by no means the first time that our favourite Twitter user has spoken candidly about issues surrounding motherhood. Chrissy has previously spoken out – and schooled Twitter trolls – about her experiences using IVF to conceive, and has described how painful it is for women to constantly hear questions about if and when they’ll have children. ‘Who knows what somebody is going through. Who knows if somebody is struggling to have children?’ she told FabLife back in 2015.
