It might sound like being famous would be a help in looking for romance, but having a familiar face actually can make things a bit awkward. You're always going to be worried if the person at the other side of the dinner table is interested in you, or if they're just a fan of your work, your fame and your fortune. Nevertheless, they try their best, and many celebrities have turned to dating apps. It's now been reported that Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke was on Raya during lockdown, but deleted her account as it 'wasn't what she hoped it would be' (according to The Sun{
Emilia is just one of many high profile people to have been spotted on Hinge, Raya, Tinder and Bumble, among others. Here are some of the best...
Paul Mescal
In July, reports stated that the Normal People had turned to celeb dating app Raya to find love, after the success of his show made it difficult to meet new people. Since then, however, he has been linked with singer Phoebe Bridgers.
Sam Smith
Sam Smith - one of the most famous popstars in the world - has given dating app Hinge a go, claiming that their account was deactivated after one night because the app's moderators thought they were being a catfish. (Hinge have now said they're going to reactivate their account. So date away, Sam!)
Sharon Stone
Sharon Stone had some problems with Bumble. The actress - star of Basic Instinct and Casino - was blocked from the app when some users didn't believe her profile was authentic. After all, how often do you come across a genuine screen icon on a dating app? Her account was later reinstated but she has since said that it was too little too late: she is no longer a fan of virtual dating.
Khloé Kardashian
The youngest Kardashian sister has had a chequered love life, but she's optimistic about dating and will explore different avenues: she has an OKCupid profile. 'I’ve never done online dating before, but just for shits and giggles, Malika and I decided to fill one out', she said in 2016. 'It was actually really fun to do.'
Katy Perry
Before the singer found love with Orlando Bloom, she was trying other options. In 2014, during a radio interview, she was asked about dating. She said she was 'really deep on Tinder, so I don’t have a whole lot of time.' Luckily for Orlando, she didn't find anything lasting.
Channing Tatum
The star of Magic Mike is dating singer Jessie J. But when that relationship went on a break, he got straight on Raya, the app designed for celebrity and high-profile singles. Raya does not allow screenshots, but one report states that Channing's profile song is D'Angelo's Brown Sugar, and that his bio establishes that 'yes, I used to be a stripper. Sorry.'
Zac Efron
If you grew up idolising Zac Efron thanks to his role in the three High School Musical films, then you might kick yourself reading this. The actor used to use the app, before he met his current girlfriend who was waitressing at a restaurant, but he didn't have much luck.
'Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me!' he told The Times in 2016. 'They thought [the profile] was fake.' Come back, Zac! We'll swipe right next time.
Laverne Cox
The Orange Is The New Black actress hasn't revealed who her boyfriend is, but she seems to have met him online. 'Honestly, I’m a Tinder girl', she said in 2019. 'When I broke up with my ex, I went back on Tinder, because I feel like if you want to date, you have to be on the apps. You have to be on the apps to be in the game.'
Niall Horan
The One Direction singer caused a bit of a stir in 2018, when he was reportedly spotted on Raya, too. The apparent sighting appeared to verify rumours that he had split with his then girlfriend, singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld.
Charli XCX
The Boom Clap singer deployed Raya for unorthodox reasons back in 2017. She used it to recruit famous men to appear in her video for Boys. Her moves worked on Joe Jonas, Riz Ahmed and Mark Ronson, which suggests they were all on the app at the time too.
