Despite the coronavirus pandemic{ =nofollow}, the annual Razzies went ahead yesterday. And there was no surprise at the film which won the most awards at the ceremony which celebrates - is that the right word? - the worst films of the season. While Cats didn’t pick up any gongs at the big awards ceremonies this year, the film did win six Golden Raspberries.

The film - which was panned by critics upon its release last year - won worst picture, supporting actor (for James Corden), supporting actress (for Rebel Wilson) and worst screenplay. It also saw Tom Hooper being awarded a worst director gong.

If you wish, you can watch the ceremony - titled The Lockdown Edition - below.

Announcing the awards, organisers of The Razzies explained why the ceremony was being broadcast solely online: ‘This past weekend the Razzies had planned a really humongous show – complete with an opening parody number, sketches, ‘Celebrity Presenters’ and the Whole Balla Wax — eventually to be beamed out to the entire world. But due to unforeseen circumstances — otherwise known as the coronavirus — we are instead bringing the public a bit more intimate video, suitable for viewing by any audience currently in lockdown mode.’

At this year's Oscars{ =nofollow}, Rebel Wilson and James Corden presented the award for visual effects while dressed as their characters from the ill-fated film. ‘As cast members of the film Cats, no one better than us understands the importance of good visual effects,’ they hilariously told the audience at the Dolby Theatre. Oh, and they even played a game of bat the mic, much to the delight/horror of the Academy. (The award? That went to 1917.)
