Britney’s story is unfolding at a mile a minute – and the news that her father Jamie has asked to temporarily renounce his daughter’s conservatorship won’t be the latest update for long. Jamie Spears has reportedly requested that Jodi Montgomery, who he describes as having been Britney’s ‘care manager’ over the last year, be appointed to his position while he bows out for now ‘due to personal health reasons’.

Fans haven’t been slow to connect a dot or two, however, as last week saw the news break that Britney’s sons have been granted a restraining order against Jamie following a ‘physical altercation’ between teenager Sean and his grandfather. Meanwhile, it’s speculated that Britney’s mother Lynne Spears might be gearing up to make a bid for the position herself: earlier this year, she filed court documents to ask that Jamie include her in their daughter’s treatment plans, and has been increasingly involved in Britney’s life. Now, Lynne’s lawyer Gladstone Jones has told TMZ that he and his client will attend court next week for Jamie’s hearing to decide conservatorship.

While Jones wouldn’t confirm whether or not Britney’s mother plans to challenge Jamie’s request to assign care to Montgomery, Lynne’s seeming support of the recent #FreeBritney campaign has led many to believe that there’s more going on than we’re privy to. If Lynne did ask the judge to appoint her conservator, then she’d likely have to relocate – at the moment, Lynne lives in Louisana but would need to be nearer Britney to take on the 24/7 role.

This latest also follows reports that Britney’s ex Kevin Federline might try to oust her father from his role as conservator after the alleged fight between his son Sean and Jamie Spears. Jamie’s position has been subject to controversy which gripped the internet a few months ago in the #FreeBritney furore, after rampant rumours online and beyond speculated that Britney was being held against her will in a mental-health facility and being given medication without her consent. Britney has since denied the allegations.
