Britney Spears fans rallied to ‘free’ the popstar last night, as her parents appeared at a Los Angeles court to hear about the conservatorship. According to The Metro, a group of people - with placards - gathered to protest outside West Hollywood City Hall. (The hearing was closed to the public, and Britney was not listed in attendance.)
The protest follows news that the singer’s dad, Jamie Spears, won’t face criminal charges over an alleged altercation with his 13-year-old grandson, Sean, who was earlier granted a restraining order against his grandfather. According to TMZ, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said they found insufficient evidence to charge Jamie.
According to TMZ, Britney's ex-partner Kevin Federline had accused Jamie of having ‘[broken] down a door [...] and grab[bing]’ teenager Sean. Speaking to People, Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan remarked that ‘Britney did the right thing and removed the children and took them out of there’, and noted too that, while their arrangements have changed to give Federline 90% custodial rights, that he remains keen for his children to have ‘continuing and meaningful contact with their mother’.
Jamie - who has had the role for 11 years - recently asked to step down as Britney’s conservator, but it’s believed he’s still in charge of her money. TMZ report there are two conservatorships – one for Britney’s estate and one for the 37-year-old herself. Jamie is still the conservator of her estate, but the 37-year-old’s longtime ‘care manager’ Jodi Montgomery is thought to be in charge of taking care of the mum-of-two as temporary conservator until January 20, 2020.
