It’s difficult to remember a better era of TV than the Gossip Girl age. Our screens were filled with beautiful, chaotic teens living glamorous, terrifying lives wearing clothes we could only dream of. And one standout star that shone among a generation of teen stars was Blake Lively.
In fact, ever since Gossip Girl ended in 2012, we’ve been waiting for her to return to her Serena Van Der Woodsen roots – something she may well do in the upcoming Gossip Girl reboot. But now, we might also get an entire show reviving the qualities of her ever-adored character. Because, Blake has just signed a deal to star in multiple Amazon TV shows. One of which, most excitingly, is a fashion-focused show based in New York.
Currently, there’s little information on what the show will be. All we know is that it’s not ready yet. ‘It took a long time but we just closed a deal with Blake and we're talking and developing a show,’ head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke told Deadline at the TCA Summer press tour, ‘It's not ready. It's set in New York, there's a fashion component.'
Very mysterious. Of course, we can hope and dream about what the show could be. We know the Gossip Girl reboot is based around a new cast, but could Amazon be reviving the GG OG’s for a new series about their lives? It could answer so many questions. Did Chuck and Blair’s child inherit the sociopath gene? Have Lily and Rufus reignited their affair for the 87th time? Is Dan still so desperately insecure that he stalks all of his peers to humiliate them at every opportunity? Could there be a crossover with Netflix thriller, You?
Of course, likelihood is since the show is centred around Blake, it will be a whole new concept. Perhaps a smart comedy that would see her ability to hilariously caption her Instagram posts or troll her husband translate into a heart-warming small-screen series.
Or, and this is the one we’d be most excited for, a family reality show documenting her glamorous life with Ryan Reynolds and their three children. We can hear it now ‘next time on Reality With The Reynolds, Ryan buys Jake Gyllenhaal a ring for his 5th wedding anniversary with Blake’.
Honestly, until more information comes out about the upcoming show, the possibilities are endless. Either way, we’re just happy to finally have Blake back on our screens serving the fashion looks we’ve desperately missed for the last seven years.
